Spandex violation allows Hamilton Southeastern to shock No. 7 Carmel, 21-20

Staff Report

A wardrobe malfunction cost seventh-ranked Carmel big-time in its
Jan. 17 dual meet against host Hamilton Southeastern. And yes, thats
right — A WARDROBE MALFUNCTION.

Carmel was deducted one team point for spandex showing under one of
its wrestlers singlet. That one point turned out to be the deciding
factor as the lycra-less Royals walked away with a 21-20 upset.

Each team won seven of the 14 weight classes, all of which were determined by decision ââ?¬â?? the closest possible match.

Hamilton Southeastern (16-4), which received votes in the most
recent coaches poll, captured the four lightest divisions, 140 right in
the middle, then the two heaviest classes; none was by more than three
points.

Carmel (23-2) won all the other matches, including by margins of
seven, five, five, and four. The Greyhounds posted consecutive wins at
130 and 135, then rolled off five straight from 145 to 189.

But the mistimed spandex shot cost Carmel a point, meaning this one wasnt gonna end in a tie at 21.

The individual results (wrestlers not available):

103: HSE, 6-4

112: HSE, 5-3

119: HSE, 8-6

125: HSE, 2-0

130: Carmel, 9-2

135: Carmel, 7-3

140: HSE, 3-2

145: Carmel, 5-3

152: Carmel, 8-6

160: Carmel, 5-0

171: Carmel, 5-0

189: Carmel, 6-2

215: HSE, 8-5

275: HSE, 2-1 (2OT)

Lawrence North romps in backyard rivalry vs. Lawrence Central, 39-14

Staff Report

So much for the following Lawrence Central thought process: Hey, this is the year weââ?¬â?¢ll get LN ââ?¬Ë?cuz theyââ?¬â?¢re down.

Two-time defending state champion Lawrence North ââ?¬â?? even with all
those graduation losses that have seen the Wildcats plummet in the
state polls throughout the season ââ?¬â?? used a strong start Jan. 18 to
knock off host LC, 39-14.

LNs quick start began, literally, with a 46-second pin in the
103-pound match. Four decisions later and the Wildcats were up 18-zip.
The far-northeastside Indianapolis rivals then traded a pair of
lopsided victories in the next four classes before LC got its last win,
a 16-4 major decision at 160.

LN then took three of the last four matches.

The individual results:

103 — Quiroga (LN) pin Hayes (LC) 0:46

112 — Spencer (LN) dec. Malvo (LC) 6-2

119 — Edwards (LN) dec. Smith (LC) 12-11
