5. LAWRENCE
NORTH SEMISTATE

No. 10
Indianapolis Cathedral drills No. 11 Carmel, 41-9

Indianapolis Cathedral dominated by winning 11 matches, including seven
straight at the lightest weight classes. The Irish advance to a state quarterfinals
showdown Feb. 25 with No. 4 Mishawaka.

The 135-pound match featured fifth-ranked Dedrick Harrison of Cathedral
against Carmels
No. 16 Tom Griffin. Both wrestlers entered with only two losses each, but it
was Harrison who got the first and only takedown
of the match, and that was all he needed in a 3-1 victory.

At 140, the only fall of the night took place when Cathedrals No. 18-ranked
freshman Gavin McGinley pinned Casey Kelly in overtime.

And at 160, the matchs other ranked wrestler, Cathedrals No. 13 Johnny
Schmaltz, scored a 9-1 major decision over Carmels Mike Klemen.

The most exciting match of the night, however, came at 119, where Cathedrals
Calvin Sullivan battled Will Mascaro of Carmel.
And we mean BATTLED.

Mascaro had a commanding 9-3 lead at the end of the first period, but
Sullivan scored back points and nearly ended the match with a fall in the
second. But time ran out on Sullivan, and the middle period ended with him
trailing, 10-8. The score went back and forth in the third before Sullivan finally
pulled off the stunning comeback and won, 17-16.

Then again, it was just that kind of night for Cathedral.

Thanks to Rick Hayes for this
report.

7. AVON SEMISTATE

No. 15
Bloomington South pulls upset of No. 6 Franklin in come-from-behind thriller,
35-33

Details are sketchy, but we do know that top-ranked Paul Young of Bloomington
South pinned Franklins
No. 4 Michael Reese at 160. The only points Young ââ?¬â?? referred to affectionately
on the wrestling coaches website as ââ?¬Å?a beastââ?¬Â ââ?¬â?? has allowed all season long are
escape points.

The match
started at heavyweight, and South was able to steal the team victory with wins
in the last three weight classes: a fall at 103 and decisions at 112 and 119,
the latter IN OVERTIME.

Holy
